  • Sturdy spatula or burger press
  • Medium bowl
  • Small bowl

Ingredients

Smash Burger Tacos Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 8-10 small tortillas (corn or flour, depending on preference)
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 cup lettuce shredded
  • 1 medium tomato diced
  • 1/4 cup red onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup pickles sliced
  • 1/2 cup Smash Burger Sauce (recipe follows)
  • To taste salt and pepper

Smash Burger Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Pinch cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Smash Burger Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Set aside.
  • Season the Ground Beef: In a medium bowl, gently mix ground beef with taco seasoning, salt, and pepper. Do not overmix.
  • Form the Meatballs: Divide the seasoned ground beef into 8-10 equal portions. Roll each portion into a small ball.
  • Smash the Burgers: Heat a large cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Place the meatballs on the hot surface, leaving enough space between them. Use a sturdy spatula or burger press to smash each meatball flat into a thin patty.
  • Cook the Burgers: Cook the burgers for 2-3 minutes per side, until they are browned and crispy around the edges and cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 160°F (71°C).
  • Warm the Tortillas: While the burgers are cooking, warm the tortillas in a dry skillet, microwave, or oven, according to package directions.
  • Assemble the Tacos: Place each smash burger patty in a warm tortilla. Top with shredded cheddar cheese, lettuce, diced tomato, chopped red onion, sliced pickles, and a generous drizzle of smash burger sauce.
  • Serve Immediately: Serve the Smash Burger Tacos immediately and enjoy!
